Guides & FAQ

Everything you need to get SnapClaim installed, scans working, and your receipts ready for tax time.

Installing on iPhone

iOS 16+ Must use Safari
Important: SnapClaim must be installed from Safari only on iPhone. Chrome, Firefox and other browsers on iOS do not support the Add to Home Screen feature that makes it work like a native app.
1
Open Safari
On your iPhone, open the Safari browser (the compass icon). Do not use Chrome or any other browser.
2
Go to snapclaim.com.au
Type snapclaim.com.au in the address bar and open the site. Make sure you use snapclaim.com.au — this is the primary address that keeps your data consistent.
3
Tap the Share button
At the bottom of Safari, tap the Share button — the square with an arrow pointing up. If you can't see it, scroll up slightly on the page to reveal the Safari toolbar.
4
Tap "Add to Home Screen"
Scroll down in the Share sheet until you see Add to Home Screen. Tap it. You'll see a preview with the SnapClaim icon — tap Add in the top right.
5
Open from your home screen
Find the SnapClaim icon on your home screen and tap it. It will open full-screen without any Safari address bar — just like a native app.
Tip: Always open SnapClaim from the home screen icon, not by going to the website in Safari. The home screen version has its own storage that keeps your receipts separate and private.

Installing on Android

Android 8+ Chrome recommended
1
Open Chrome
Open the Chrome browser on your Android phone. SnapClaim works in Chrome, Samsung Internet, and most modern Android browsers.
2
Go to snapclaim.com.au
Type snapclaim.com.au in the address bar. Use this address — not snapclaim.xyz — to ensure your data stays consistent if you upgrade your plan.
3
Tap the three-dot menu
Tap the three dots (⋮) in the top-right corner of Chrome to open the menu.
4
Tap "Add to Home screen"
Select Add to Home screen from the menu. Chrome may also show a banner at the bottom of the screen prompting you to install — you can tap that instead.
5
Tap Add / Install
Confirm by tapping Add or Install on the prompt. The SnapClaim icon will appear on your home screen.
6
Open from home screen
Tap the SnapClaim icon from your home screen. It opens full-screen, no address bar — just like a native app.
Play Store & App Store: SnapClaim is also available on Google Play and the Apple App Store for a native one-tap install experience.

Your first scan

1
Create your account
Open SnapClaim and tap Create profile. Enter your name, email and a password. Your profile is used to track your plan and scan count — your receipts stay on your device.
2
Set your occupation (optional but recommended)
In Settings, tap My occupation and select the option closest to your work. This gives the AI extra context to classify receipts more accurately for your specific deductions.
3
Tap the scan button
From the home screen, tap Scan receipt. You can take a photo with your camera or upload an existing photo or PDF from your files.
4
Tap Analyse
After selecting your receipt, tap Analyse. The AI will read the receipt and return the merchant name, date, total, GST (if applicable) and ATO deduction category — usually in under 10 seconds.
5
Review and save
Check the result. You can change the category by tapping it, adjust the business use percentage, or edit the amount. When you're happy, tap Save to FY 2025–26.

Scanning receipts

What formats work?

SnapClaim accepts JPEG, PNG, HEIC (iPhone photos) and PDF files. Max file size is 10MB. Most receipts — paper, digital, email screenshots — work well.

Tips for best results

Good lighting
Flat, even light with no shadows across the text gives the best results. Avoid taking photos at an angle.
Include the full receipt
Make sure the total, merchant name and date are all visible. The AI needs all three to produce a complete result.
Digital receipts
Screenshot an email receipt or PDF and upload it directly — these often give the most accurate results because the text is crisp.
Note: The AI classifies the most likely ATO category based on the receipt content. Always review the result — you can change the category manually if needed. SnapClaim is a productivity tool, not registered tax advice.

ATO deduction categories

SnapClaim classifies receipts against the ATO's individual tax deduction schedule. The main categories are:

D1
Work-related car expenses
D2
Work-related travel (not car)
D3
Clothing, laundry & dry-cleaning
D4
Self-education expenses
D5
Other work-related expenses (tools, phone, home office, union fees…)
D6–D15
Interest, dividends, rental, managed funds & more

SnapClaim also supports all D5 sub-codes: D5C (tools), D5H (mobile phone), D5J (computer), D5D (home office), D5A (motor vehicle running costs), D3U (uniforms), D3L (laundry) and more. The AI selects the most specific applicable sub-code.

Editing receipts

After saving a receipt you can still edit it. In the Receipts list, tap any receipt to open it, then tap Edit. You can change the merchant name, date, amount and ATO category.

To delete a receipt, open the Receipts list and tap the trash icon on the right of any row. You will be asked to confirm before it is deleted.

Deletion is permanent. Deleted receipts cannot be recovered. Use the Export backup feature in Settings before clearing data.

Exporting & backup

Export to CSV (for MyTax or your accountant)

Go to Export in the app's bottom navigation. Select the financial year and tap Export CSV. This gives you a spreadsheet with all receipts, ATO codes, amounts and GST — ready to share with your accountant or enter into MyTax.

Backup your receipts

Go to Settings → Export backup. This downloads a JSON file containing all your receipts. Store it somewhere safe — Google Drive, iCloud, email to yourself. If you get a new phone or clear your browser data, you can restore from this file using Settings → Import backup.

We recommend backing up at least once a month and always before switching phones, clearing app data, or upgrading iOS/Android. Your receipts are stored on your device — a backup is your safety net.

Switching phones?

1
Export backup on your old phone
Settings → Export backup. Save the file to Google Drive or email it to yourself.
2
Install SnapClaim on your new phone
Follow the iPhone or Android install guide above. Use the same email to sign in.
3
Import the backup file
Settings → Import backup. Select the file you saved. All your receipts will be restored.

Plans & upgrading

Upgrading your plan

1
Open SnapClaim from your home screen
Always upgrade from the installed app icon, not from a browser tab — this ensures Stripe returns you to the correct app after payment.
2
Go to Billing
Tap the Billing tab (or go to Settings → Manage subscription on mobile). Select the plan you want.
3
Complete payment via Stripe
You'll be taken to Stripe's secure checkout. Enter your card details. Payment is processed by Stripe — SnapClaim never sees your card number.
4
Return to the app
After payment you'll be returned to SnapClaim automatically. Your upgraded plan will be active immediately and your receipts will still be there.
Always use snapclaim.com.au — this is the only address for SnapClaim. Make sure your installed app icon opens to snapclaim.com.au before upgrading your plan.

Upgrading on iPhone or iPad (iOS)

Because Apple does not allow in-app payments through third-party billing systems, iOS upgrades are handled through the SnapClaim website. The process takes about two minutes.

1
Back up your receipts first
If you are on the Free plan, your receipts are stored on your phone only. Before upgrading, go to Settings → Backup & Restore in the app and tap Download backup. Keep that file safe — you will need it to restore after upgrading.
2
Open Safari and go to snapclaim.com.au
Scroll down to the Upgrade your iOS plan section, or tap Pricing in the menu and scroll past the plan cards. You can also go directly to snapclaim.com.au/#upgrade.
3
Sign in with your SnapClaim account
Enter the same email and password you use in the app. This links your payment to your existing account.
4
Choose Lite or Professional and pay
Select your plan and complete payment via Stripe's secure checkout. SnapClaim never sees your card details.
5
Open the app and sign in again
Go back to the SnapClaim app on your iPhone, sign out and sign back in with the same email. Your upgraded plan will be active immediately and all previously greyed-out features will be unlocked.
6
Restore your receipts if needed
If you were on the Free plan, go to Settings → Backup & Restore and tap Restore from backup. Select the backup file you downloaded in Step 1 to bring all your receipts back.
Already a paid subscriber? If you upgraded on Android or the web and want to access your account on iPhone, simply open the app, sign in with your existing email and password, and your plan will carry across automatically. No need to pay again.

Your data

Your receipts are stored in your browser's local storage — on your device, not on our servers. Only your account details (email, name, subscription status) are stored in our database, hosted in Sydney, Australia.

Receipt images sent for AI classification are discarded immediately after the response is returned. We never retain your images.

Frequently asked questions

No. SnapClaim is a productivity tool to help you organise and categorise your work-related receipts. It is not registered tax advice and does not constitute lodgement of a tax return. Always confirm your deduction eligibility with a registered tax agent or the ATO before lodging.
Your receipts are stored on your device, so clearing browser data or switching phones will remove them from that device. This is why we strongly recommend using the Export backup feature in Settings regularly. Import the backup file on your new device to restore everything.
SnapClaim is only available at snapclaim.com.au. This is the one address to bookmark and install from — it ensures your receipts, account and plan all stay in one place.
For common work-related receipts SnapClaim achieves over 90% accuracy. The AI is trained on ATO deduction guidelines and designed in collaboration with a qualified accountant. Every result shows a confidence score — you can always change the category manually before saving.
This can happen if the upgrade process took you between snapclaim.xyz and snapclaim.com.au — two separate storage locations. Always install and use SnapClaim from snapclaim.com.au. If this happened to you, contact support and we can help restore from a backup if you have one.
Yes. Pro plan users get access to the full desktop interface at snapclaim.com.au/desktop — drag and drop PDF receipts, view your full receipt list, run Oscar AI Tax Analysis, and export BAS and myTax reports. Receipts sync automatically between your phone and desktop on the Pro plan.
Yes. Go to Settings → Manage subscription. You'll be taken to the Stripe customer portal where you can cancel or change your plan at any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period — you keep full access until then.
You need internet only when running AI Analysis — the image needs to be sent to Oscar for classification. If you have no internet, SnapClaim will offer to queue the receipt and automatically classify it when you reconnect. Viewing saved receipts, manual entry, browsing your list and exporting data all work fully offline.
