Frontier's goal: $1B+ committed to carbon removal by this year

Why we do this

Software companies consume energy — through the servers that run our API, the AI that classifies your receipts, and the devices you use every day. We think it is only reasonable to contribute something back.

Rather than buying carbon credits or planting trees — approaches that are often difficult to verify — we chose Stripe Climate, which funds permanent carbon removal technologies selected by independent scientific experts. These are not offsets. They are genuine removals: CO₂ taken out of the atmosphere and stored permanently underground.

1% of every SnapClaim subscription is directed automatically. You do not need to do anything. Every time you renew, a small portion goes toward funding technology that we think the world genuinely needs.

Your subscription costs exactly what is shown on the pricing page. The 1% contribution comes from SnapClaim's share of revenue — there is no additional charge to you.

About Stripe Climate

Stripe Climate is a programme that lets businesses direct a portion of their revenue toward carbon removal. All contributions are pooled and deployed through Frontier — an advance market commitment backed by Stripe and other companies — which purchases carbon removal on behalf of participating businesses.

Frontier works with a multidisciplinary team of scientific experts to identify and evaluate the most credible, scalable carbon removal projects in the world. The focus is on technologies that are:

1
Permanent
CO₂ stored in geological formations or mineralised rock — not temporary offsets that can reverse if land use changes.
2
Scientifically verified
Each project is assessed by independent technical reviewers before funding is committed. Projects must demonstrate measurable, verifiable removal.
3
Designed to scale
Early-stage technologies need investment to come down the cost curve. Frontier's purchases send a demand signal that helps the most promising approaches reach commercial scale.

Example projects funded by Stripe Climate

Frontier regularly publishes its portfolio. Past and current projects include:

Climeworks — Direct air capture
Uses renewable geothermal energy to capture CO₂ directly from the air and permanently sequester it underground in Iceland.
Charm Industrial — Bio-oil injection
Converts agricultural waste biomass into bio-oil and injects it deep underground for permanent geological storage.
Running Tide — Ocean carbon
Grows kelp and woody biomass at sea to capture atmospheric carbon, then sinks it to the deep ocean for long-term storage.
Verdox — Electrochemical capture
Develops low-energy electrochemical processes to capture carbon from industrial flue gas and the atmosphere.

SnapClaim is a Stripe Climate member. 1% of our revenue is automatically contributed to carbon removal every billing cycle.

Our broader environmental approach

Beyond the Stripe Climate contribution, SnapClaim is designed to be light by default. The app runs as a Progressive Web App — no native app download, no heavy SDK, no unnecessary background processes. Receipt data is stored on-device rather than synced to a server constantly. AI classification only runs when you explicitly request it.

We are a small team, and we are honest about the limits of what one small software company can do. But we think the 1% commitment is the right thing to do, and we will increase it as the business grows.

Our technology partners and the environment

Cloudflare R2 — SnapClaim uses Cloudflare R2 for cloud receipt image storage on the Professional plan. Cloudflare operates its global network on 100% renewable energy and has committed to removing all historical carbon emissions from its network since 2010. Cloudflare is a signatory of the UN Global Compact and a member of the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Independent research by Analysys Mason found that using Cloudflare's cloud infrastructure can reduce related carbon emissions by up to 96% compared to on-premise hardware. Learn more at cloudflare.com/impact.

Vercel — SnapClaim is hosted on Vercel's serverless infrastructure, which scales to zero when not in use — meaning no energy is consumed when the app is idle. Vercel uses AWS infrastructure which purchases renewable energy certificates to offset its consumption.

Upstash Redis — User account data is stored in Upstash Redis, located in Sydney, Australia. Upstash operates on a consumption-based model with no always-on servers, reducing idle energy usage.

Anthropic — AI receipt classification is powered by Anthropic's Claude API. Anthropic is committed to responsible AI development and publishes an annual sustainability report.
